“Expanding
Mission Through Participation”
PURPOSE:
The organized unit of United Methodist Women whose purpose is to know God and to
experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a
supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation
in global ministries of the church.
HIGHLIGHTS:
United Methodist Women is
about people helping people – near and far! We are a caring, sharing
organization, relying on the power of prayer and the power found in the number
of members to get the job done. Currently, 129 women make up the Algona
UMW.
A luncheon meeting is held
on the first Thursday of each month (except July & August). These
meetings feature fellowship and programs of interest as well as the business
aspect of United Methodist Women. The UMW membership is made up of five
circles which meet monthly, usually in the home of Circle members, for
fellowship and discussion.
The Iowa Conference of UMW
gives more dollars to missions that any other Conference in the United States.
We are proud of this and work hard to keep (and improve upon) this achievement.
The Algona unit (a part of
Spencer District) offers an opportunity to work with and enjoy the fellowship of
women of all ages from many different backgrounds.
